I made this quite a long time ago, sausages are something I would refrain from giving them to my kids and I actually don't buy ready made sausages anymore from the supermarkets. They are normally very salty and packed with a lot of preservatives.
Having said that, I still like to make these sausage buns maybe twice a year, they are actually very addictive, oh dear!
This particular recipe is a good one, mashed potatoes always bring you a very soft, feather like kind of texture.
Recipe from here
Ingredients (A)
Bread flour 220g
Cake flour 80g
Castor sugar 30g
Salt 1/2 teaspoon
Cold water 140g
Instant dry yeast 1 teaspoon
Egg yolk (2 yolks)
Mashed potato 60g
Unsalted butter 30g
Hot Dogs 10 pieces
Parmesan cheese and sesame seeds for decoration
Egg wash
note: above is double batch of original recipe, shaping slightly different, mine is longer.
Make a slit in the centre, then three more on each side. |
All ingredients in (A), except the butter. Well mixed, quick gentle knead to a rough dough.
Add in unsalted butter, continue to knead to a smooth and glossy dough.
Cover and let it rise for about 60 minutes, or until size has doubled.
Divide into 10 portions, roll into balls. Cover and let it rest for 10 minutes.
Roll out the dough long, wrap in a sausage and seal seams up.
Smooth side facing upward. Make a slit in the centre, further 3 more slits of both side. Shape them sideways (one on the right and then one on the left alternately). Cover, let rise for about 25 minutes.
Brush with egg wash on the surface, spread with parmesan cheese and sesame seeds.
Bake at preheated oven of 190C for 18 minutes, insert skewer to the deep centre end of the bread, to see that it comes out clean.
Note: I also placed a pan with boiling water on the lowest shelf of the oven throughout baking.
